On a seemingly ordinary day in May 2025, disaster struck Animal Samaritans, a no-kill shelter for at-risk dogs and cats in Thousand Palms. Around 9:30 am, a fast-moving fire broke out near the shelter, destroying several vehicles and a refurbished mobile home. The shelter’s 40 pets were evacuated and safely held at Animal Samaritan’s vet clinic.
Thanks to swift action by first responders and the compassionate team at Animal Samaritans, no injuries were reported. But the shelter itself suffered fire damage, specifically in the form of a burned back awning and blown-out windows.
Headquartered just a few blocks away, Flood Response immediately called and offered its emergency restoration services. From there, Animal Samitarans started on a swift road to recovery.
Animal Samitarians’ Swift Fire Damage Recovery
Our IICRC-certified team understands the devastating impact and rapid spread of fires can have. We started the fire damage restoration process immediately upon arriving at the scene, inspecting the affected areas and thoroughly documenting the damage.
Even in cases of partial fire damage, a comprehensive restoration process ensures the affected house or building remains structurally sound for years to come. After documenting fire damage, Flood Response secures the property, boarding up any openings and storing belongings. The technicians remove any water from fire extinguishers, demolish permanently damaged structures, and clean up smoke and soot. Finally, the team manages the reconstruction process from beginning to end.
Flood Response completed fire damage restoration at Animal Samaritans, but our work isn’t stopping there. We are proudly committed to not only ensuring the shelter is restored but also to helping raise the money needed for sufficient shelter resources.
Donate to Animal Samaritans
Dedicated to improving the lives of animals and people, Animal Samaritans serves as a refuge and a lifeline for pets throughout the Coachella Valley. Along with housing adoptable cats and dogs, the organization offers veterinary services at two state-of-the-art clinics in Thousand Palms and Indio, an Animal Companion Therapy program, and a Humane Education program that educates more than 12,000 children each year.
While fire damage restoration is complete, Animal Samaritans still has an urgent need for funds to build a covered, lighted area to protect the animals from desert elements. They also need to construct a higher, more secure block wall for better safety.
On behalf of this beloved animal shelter, Flood Response is calling on the Thousand Palms community for support. Whether it’s $5 or $500, every dollar helps Animal Samaritans’ animals have the safe, loving shelter they deserve.
